between 1832 and 1833 |
Pennsylvania, age 27 b.PA in 1860 census, age 48 b.NY in 1880 census. However, both ages make her born to late to be the child of Richard. So, who is she? My guess -- she is RIchard's child, but is not being quite honest about her age. |

She is talked about in her sister-in-law's obituary (Josephine McCloskey Nevins). " She was born Marie Nevins, and married "Jamie" Blaine, the fascinating, but as time proved, ne'er-do-well son of James G Blaine, the white-plumed Knight. Mrs Blaine was beautiful, clever, fastidious and the marriage was a sad failure. Mrs Blaine's second marriage, to Dr Willliam T Bull of New York, an old friend of her family, and one of the most distinguished surgeons in the country, has been ideal. With a beautiful home in New York and [copy obliterates next line] taste and originality. I have heard it said that her salon is the only place in New York where even the most blase is never by any chance bored." |

The Twentieth Century Biographical Dictionary of Notable Americans: Volume II (from Ancestry online databases)
BULL, William Tillinghast, surgeon, was born at Newport, R. I., May 18, 1849, son of Henry Bull, seventh in descent from Henry Bull, governor of Rhode Island, a friend of and co-settler with Roger Williams in the purchase of "Aquidneck." He was graduated at Harvard in 1869, and at the College of physicians and surgeons, New York in 1872. He studied also with Dr. Sands; went by merit into Bellevue hospital for a year or more, and then to Europe for two years' study. In 1875 he began practice in New York city. For two years he was in charge of the New York dispensary, and from 1877 to 1888, of the Chambers street hospital. He was for four years attending surgeon, and then consulting surgeon of St. Luke's hospital. By a successful laparotomy he helped to revolutionize the treatment of gunshot wounds of the abdomen, which were formerly fatal in most cases. As consulting surgeon to the Manhattan hospital; to the Orthopædic hospital and dispensary; surgeon-in-charge of the hospital for ruptured and crippled, and professor of surgery in the medical department of Columbia college, he won a wide reputation for skill and readiness in emergency.
