Per Claydon Thesis:
Sailed from London on 1 Jan 1828 on the Numa arriving at Port Jackson in Sydney, New South Wales on 5 July 1828. Listed on the passenger list as Wax Norton. The cargo was 185 Saxon sheep and 2 pure blood horses.
Was a shepherd when he lived in England and a publican (tavern keeper) after he moved to NSW. In 1830 he was granted a license for "The Rose and Thistle" and in 1832 was issued a license for "The King William the IV. The second license was renewed in 1833, and 1834.
By 1837 Wickes and his family had left Sydney for Maitland where he also worked as a publican.
In 1842 the family moved to Newcastle and carried on the same business at the "Commericial Hotel." 1844 records relating to bankruptcy are held in the State Records of New South Wales.
In July 1845 Wickes Norton gave away the hotel business and became a butcher in Newcastle.
About 1851 the family returned to Sydney and settled in the suburb of Glebe. Wickes Norton continued as a butcher. In 1867 there was another insolvency.
Buried in the Haslem's Creek section of Rookwood Cemetery.
