Birth*1 May 1844 Turner Byrd was born on 1 May 1844 at near Bellefontaine, Logan Co., Ohio; Birth date & state from death record. However, daughter Carrie's1920 census says both parents born Michigan. 
(InHomeOf) Census18501850 He appeared on the 1850 census in the household of Turner Byrd, Calvin, Cass Co., Michigan. 
Military* Turner Byrd was in the military Misc items of info from Turner Byrd's pension record.
     He was a private in Company G, 102nd Regiment, US Colored Infantry. He was mustered into US Service at Kalamazoo 2nd Congressional District 23 Sep 1864 with a bounty paid of $100. Detachment of men drafted and forwarded to draft rendevouz at Jackson Michigan and mustered out at Charleston South Carolina 30 Sep 1865.
     There are statments of 11 Mar 1890 Declaration For an Original Invalid Pension, a 15 Jan 1898 statement, and some others itemized below. His marriage and death records were also in the pension file.
     14 Apr 1915 statement gives the following names and birth dates.

This statement has his original signature.
     28 Mar 1923 statement he elaborates on birth place being on a farm near Bellefontaine, Logan Co OH. States he is a blacksmith. And that his house burned a short time ago. His residense was 1316 Albert St in Lansing Michigan.
     6 Dec 1924 of Arrena says that she was born near Bellefontaine, Logan Co OH 20 Dec 1854 (see daughter's affidavit later), and that she was married under the name of Irena Ash. Her original signature is on this.
     Drop record for Turner shows date of death of 6 Nov 1924. An undated Affidavit Supporting Burial Claim shows he was buried in Mt Hope Cemetery in Lansing Michigan. That Arrena has no cash and "a small house partly paid for, taken over by son Abner Byrd who paid funeral expenses and gives the mother a home".
     14 Oct 1930 there is a request for an increase in widow's pension accompanied by statement of 24 Jan 1930 by daughter Mary Ellen Spier of 1309 Hyland St in Lansing. Mary is age 63 and states that her age is proof that her mother's stated birth date is wrong. (The marriage record shows her age as 21 in 1866, making her born 1845 - thus the 1854 date is a transposition).

Death*5 November 1924 Turner Byrd died on 5 November 1924 at Lansing, Ingham Co., Michigan, at age 80; Have death record (part of pension). Died from broken neck, fell of back porch of house. Informant was Irma Byrd. At death, lived at 1316 Albert St Lansing, Ingham, Michigan. 
Burial* He was buried at Mt Hope Cemetery, Lansing, Ingham Co., Michigan.
