| Military* | circa 1860 | They lived on 135 acres at Brocks Gap, Hardy Co,Va. until the Civil War. Joseph was a Confederate solder at age 62 in Va. At least one of his sons joined him. John it is thought. The war split the family as Mary was very Union. She took part of the family and went to Moorefield when Joseph joined the Confederacy. I think Joseph was taken prisoner somewhere in VA but not sure. After the war ended, he took the oath to the United States and then went to Moorefield. Not sure that he ever got back with his wife. |
