Chapter is titled The Rippetoe (Rippeteau) Family. **"The earliest record found for a Rippetoe in Virginia is a deed from Thomas Walker to John Rippetoe dated 20 Jun 1759 in Louisa Co VA. This land was in Orange Co so John and Elizabeth moved there with their family. Later, John deeded the land to their son, Peter on 16 Mar 1772. John, then bought land in Louisa Co, on 20 Sep 1768 and more on 16 Mar 1771. When John received a grant for 83 acres of land from the English Crown on 16 Mar 1771, he became an original land owner. (Can be used for membership in DAC)". Taking these in chronological order -. 1759 He bought land in Orange Co VA (Evd 97, deed book 13 page 28) and sold same land in 1772 to his son Peter, proving that John (RN 454) is father of Peter (RN 1144). 1768 NEED TO GET A COPY OF THIS ONE land patent Louisa Co VA to John Rippeto 120 acres. 1771 NEED TO GET A COPY OF THIS ONE (but it's typed out in ** below). 1772 He sold land (see above under 1759) Quoting again -. **"John and Elizabeth made their home on the side of Piney Mountain, most likely on the land just acquired. John deeded his daughter Elizabeth who married Isaac Crosthwait 23 acres on top of Piney Mountain on 13 Jun 1776 (Deed book 6 page 500 in Albemarle Co VA). On 18 Apr 1777 John and Elizabeth (his first wife) sold 100 acres of land on Piney Mt in Albemarle Co VA for 40 pounds to Isaac Crosthwait their son in law (Deed book 7 page 59). John and Mary (his second wife) sold Isaac another 120 acres on Piney Mt Albemarle Co for 11 pounds on 12 Feb 1789 (Deed book 9 page 528). John made his will 11 Feb 1805 and it was presented to the Albemarle Co court on 6 Mar 1820". Chronologically again -. 1776 NEED TO GET A COPY OF THIS ONE. 1777 (Apr 18) Sold land to son in law Isaac Crosthwait (proving that Elizabeth RN 227 is his daughter) 1777-1789 Between these two years was his 2nd marriage but nothing more definitive. 1779 Sold land to John Elliott 1785 Albemarle Co tax list - 7 in family. 1788 Right after recording of 1789 deed is entry giving ("in consideration of the good will I bear my son John Rippeto") land to son John proving he had a son John 1787 He's on Albemarle Co VA tax list 1789 Sold land to son in law Isaac Crosthwait 1790 He's on Albemarle Co VA tax list. |
