Matthew married Elizabeth (Unknown, but I believe she may well have been Elizabeth Cardeen). They moved to Bourbon co., Kentucky, around 1800 (probably from Delaware) and had several children there, for whom I have a lot of information. I believe (but have not yet been able to prove conclusively) that my gr-gr-grandfather, James Sapp (b. ca. 1802 in KY) who married Margaret Crawford, was their son (maybe their first). Matthew and Elizabeth moved from Kentucky to the Pike co., MO area around 1820, taking their family with them. They stayed there a few years only and then moved on to Boone co., MO by 1824. They are the ones who established the Sapp name in Boone co. and there are a large number of Sapps here to this day. My gr-gr-grandparents, James and Margaret Crawford Sapp, stayed in the Pike co., MO/IL area for a while, then moved on to Livingston Co., MO where they raised their family. I have several pieces of circumstantial evidence that James was the son of Matthew and Elizabeth but am still hoping to find a 'smoking gun.' Thus info on Sapps in Bourbon co., KY and Pike Co./Livingston co./ and Boone co., MO is very important. |
