Note* | Mary Ann Stoneking Her husband John was also her cousin. Moved to Bethel Township, McDonough County, IL approx 1837 with her parents. In Alice Derry's history she recounts: That while enroute to Illinois, somewhere in Indiana, they encountered a group of Indians and that the son of the Chief of these Indians fell in love with Mary Ann who was then 16. The chief wanted to buy her for his son. Alice's account states that the family was very afraid that the Indians would steal Mary Ann, which was apparantly the perceived custom to the Indians at that time. She made it to Illinois. Per Art Hall (Gin Ridge Clan) she was born in Ohio. Also added death month and place per his pedigree chart. | |
