Note* He was working in a lumber camp, owned by A. E. Smalt, on the Sangamon River five miles from Browning IL when he was killed in a logging accident. His uncle, Uriah Stoneking was employed as forman of the lumber camp. He had begun work at the camp on January 2. He with Adam Mohlenbruck, another employee, were sawing down a tall tree. When it fell it became lodged in a nearby tree. They were attempting to dislodge it. Stoneking ran across its path as it fell and was pinned underneath. He died from a massive head injury. Details from long newspaper article: copy on file. During the summer months he worked as a contractor in Macomb for Robert Johnson. He got the job at the lumber camp because winter was the off season for that type of work. The article stated that the family may receive insurance money.
Obituary notes: His funeral was held at Mt. Zion school and was conducted by Rev. Bricen Willey. He moved to Macomb in about 1902. "Deceased was a man of quiet demanor, steady and industrious and his family was uppermost in his mind at all times."
