He was elected to the Wynooche Lodge #43 of the Free and Accepted Masons on 3 Dec 1888, (his age at the time was 29 and his occupation was listed as farmer), was initiated on 3 Dec 1888, was passed on 17 Dec 1888 and raised on 23 Feb 1889 per his membership record on file at the Grand Lodge of Washington in Tahoma (record acquired May 1995 - LD).

Around 1910-1912 he owned the Montesano Bank in Montesano, WA.

Sometime in 1913-1917 he moved his family to Pasadena, CA. They lived at 1119 Chicopee Street, later renamed Green Street, and later moved to 2515 Blanche Street, Pasadena., which is now Del Mar.

Obituary Notes: He died in his home on Blanche Street at the age of 89 years, 4 months, 20 days from "acute cardiac
failure due to arteriosclerotic heart disease" (cause from death certificate). He was a mamber of Wynooche Lodge No. 43 F. & A. M., he was a member of the Scottish Rite in Montesano WA. Funeral services were held at Turner and Stevens Mortuary Chapel, Pasadena, CA, and were conducted by Officers of the Masonic Lodges of Pasadena.

His death certificate lists his occupation as bank owner.

Per Dolores Devonshire 16 Oct 2005: All of his daughters were sent to finishing school and he gave each of his children a home. Louis got the ranch, John got 1115 E. Del Mar.

Arthur Devonshire, a Wynooche farmer, brought to town Wednesday, several specimens of timothy raised on his place this season, the stalks which measured 7 feet in height, and the heads being 13 inches in length.

The organization of the Montesano State Bank was effected last Saturday, to succeed the private banking business of G.W. Hertges. The capitol stock is $25,000. The stockholders are G.W. Hertges, W.H. France, and Julia Hertges. W.H. France will be the cashier of the new institution.

Messrs. McGillicuddy & Devonshire sold a quarter section of timberland just north of town (NE cec. 1, T 17 R8) to E. K. Wood for the Wood Lumber Co. of Hoquiam, for $1500, the land will cut 5 million bd ft of timber.

A.D. Devonshire, of this city, and C.W. Rowland , of Hoquiam, have purchased the stock in the Montesano State Bank formerly held by the mother and brother of the late G.W. Hedges. Mr. Devonshire has been elected president of the bank, succeeding Owen Jones, of Hoquiam.

A.D. Devonshire buys 240 acres of timberland from Weyerheauser Timber Co. for $8,000, (ave. $33 per acre) and is being logged by C.H. Clemons. The tract is located in sec. 3-17-8, about 3 miles west of Montesano.

Devonshire, arrived home Saturday, having walked the entire distance from Lacey, where they are attending college, in order to spend the Easter holidays with their parents. (Mapquest estimated distance from (center of) Lacey, WA to (center of) Montesano, WA: 43.35 miles.)

AGRICULTURALETTES. A barn at Montesano belonging to A. D. Devonshire and used as a warehouse was burned last week. The loss was estimated at about $4000.

CORPORATION BUYS TWO HARBOR BANKS SEATTLE. Aug. 30- The Montesano State Bank and the Bank of Elma have been acquired
by the Marine Bancorporation, Andrew Price, president of the holding corporation, announced here today.
The banks have combined resources of approximately $2,000,000. A. D. Devonshire is president of both acquired institutions. W. H. France, cashier of the Montesano bank, and his brother, E. L. France, cashier of the Bank of Elma, will continue in their present capacities.
