Isaiah Boone, formerly of Weldon, but who has for some time made his home with his son, Daniel Boone, at clinton, was killed by teh morning passenger train on the Champaign & Havanna branch of the Illinois Centeral RR last Saturday monring about two miles out of Clinton. For some time he has been in the habit of making the trip from Clinton to Weldon, on foot, and was on one of these trips when he met his terrible death. He was walking along in the center of the track, when suddenly, the train appeared around a sharp curve. In a few moments the train was upon him. The engineer says if he had twenty feet more, in which to stop, the accident would have been avoided.
This is a long obituary that details the aftermath of the accident, and the coronors inquest. Then it goes on to say that the funeral was held from the residence of his son Daniel, the funeral "discourse" was preached by Dr. W.A. Hunter, and that the remains were laid to rest in Woodlawn cemetery.
Again quoting: Among those present from out of town were: C.C. Boone, as son, of Mattoon; C.D. Rock and wife of Monticello, Thomas Millgan and family, V. Miles, and (too blurred to read), and others. The deceased was born in Clark County, KY, and was 66 years 5 months 25 days old. His wife died June 21, 1880. Her maiden name was Sarah E. Barrow.
