| Obituary | | His obituary: Col. Charles Kenneth Rose, III, (Retired), 86, of Burkburnett, passed away Sunday, August 30, 2015. Memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, September 7, 2015 in the chapel of Owens & Brumley Funeral Home in Burkburnett with Rev. Bobby Scott, officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Owens & Brumley Funeral Home of Burkburnett. A son of the late Charles K. Rose, Jr. and Gertrude (Young) Rose, Charles was born on November 1, 1928 in Staten Island, New York and raised in Allentown, Pennsylvania. He graduated from Allentown High School, and later, in June of 1950, he graduated from Duke University and entered the United States Air Force in September of 1950. He served his basic training at Sheppard AFB and then on to Aviation Cadets in March of 1951. He completed his basic Pilot Training at Greenville AFB (T-6) and then on to Craig AFB (T-6 and F-51), and graduated in Class 52B in March of 1952. He then went on to McConnel AFB for T-33 transition and then to Nellis AFB for F-80 gunnery training and to Suwon AB (K-13) in September of 1952. Charles completed his tour in May 1953 and back to Craig AFB as a T-28/T-33 instructor, and late to RCAF Station Trenton in September 1956 as an Exchange Pilot (T-33/F-86). In August 1958, he came back to the U.S. for KC-135 at Altus AFB. After two years in Squadron, he went to Air Division as a T-33 pilot and KC-135 IP. In 1962, he left for Command and Staff College, then on to Lockbourne AFB as KC-135 IP and Wing Safety Officer in 1964. From there, he went on to Utapao AB, Thailand, as a KC-135 IP. Charles returned to Crag AFB in August 1967 as a T-38 IP. He then went on to Reese AFB as a T-38 Squadron Commander in September 1968. Once promoted to Colonel, he became Deputy Commander for Material. In 1972, he went to Presidio of Monterey, California for Thai language training, then to England AFB for C-47 transition. He arrived in Bangkok as DO in Joint United States Military Advisory Group and stayed 5 years, the last 4 as Chief of AF Division. In 1978, Charles returned to Sheppard AFB and became Commander of 3700 Technical Training Wing the following spring. He retired in May of 1982 as a full bird Colonel, and entered into the Burkburnett community. He was preceded in death by his wife, Rita Tillotson Rose in 1973. On January 30, 1991, he married Kathleen Dwyer at SAFB in Wichita Falls. Charles was a member of The Order of Daedalian. He was an avid golfer, and enjoyed traveling and reading. He is survived by his wife, Kathleen Rose of Burkburnett; four daughters, Leigh A. VanHorn and husband Joe of Ennis, Christa Rose-Logue and husband John of Roanoke, Kathryn Grumbine of Concord, California, and Laura Nelson of Edmonton AB, Canada; a sister, Patricia Korbel of Pasadena, California; three grandchildren, Deborah Chatman and husband Robert of Fate, Clarke Grumbine of Hagerstown, Maryland, and Karyme Grumbine of Concord, California; great-grandson, Drake Chatman of Fate; two cousins, Stanley Donald Rose of Denison, and Phyllis Iacocca of Allentown, Pennsylvania; and numerous nieces and nephews.
