"We worked pretty hard then," he said, "but I had to stop doing heavy work when I was about 90. My son-in-law and I brought in 300 bushels of corn then, and that was about my last heavy work."
Aside from one trip to the hospital, Uncle Sammie has enjoyed remarkably good health throughout the years. "I was in the hospital here about a month back," he said, "to pay a visit to my youngest daughter."
Of politics, the near-centenarian emphasized that he's never voted anything but the Democratic ticket. "Missouri usually goes the right way in elections even though it's been a little mixed up these past two elections," he noted. Uncle Sammie said that he watched both conventions on televistion this year and enjoyed the show immensely.
"But one thing about TV," he added, "I just can't seem to concentrate on the programs for trying to figure out how they do it. That TV is one of the biggest mysteries!"
He spoke of today's youth while he idly fingered the pages of an old family Bible. "They aren't so bad. I'm satisfied that there are some that are pretty mean, but still - they'e got more to entice them now than we had them."
A God-fearing man, Rippeto has been a member of the Goshen Primitive Baptist church at Wilton for 60 years, seldom missing a Sunday. "But I've been going to that church ever since I was old enough to go." he pointed out. "I just didn't get around to joining until I was 40."
This same church will be the scene of a birthday celebration honoring Uncle Sammie on Sunday, December 30, to which all of Rippeto's relatives and friends have been invited. He indicated his pleasure at the thought of returning to his native Boone county hom. "Boone county's always been my favorite," he said when asked how he liked life in Jefferson City, which is in Cole county. in December 1956 at Missouri. 
Death*9 March 1959 He died on 9 March 1959 at Boone Co., Missouri, at age 102. 
Burial* He was buried at Goshen/Gilead Cemetery, near Wilton, Boone Co., Missouri.
