Census1860*1860 Emberry Love Cannon appeared on the 1860 census as the head of household, pg 36 #265-265, Kaufman, Kaufman Co., Texas, Cannon, E 33 b.TN farmer $700-$2286. 
Military* He was in the military Chisum's Cavalry (Dismounted), (Second Partisan Rangers; Stone's Regiment.) 
Census1870*1870 He appeared on the 1870 census as the head of household, pg 51b #343-356, Kaufman, Kaufman Co., Texas, Cannon, Emberry 48 b.TN farmer $2300-$10,000. 
Background* He has the following background notes: claimed to be part Chickasaw (at least on some occasions when it was of benefit). He filed on the Dawes Roll in about 1896 but was denied even though he had quite a few affidavits from people who were Chickasaw who said his family was related. The judges statements also said he was being denied because he went to Texas instead of to IT so was, therefore, a citizen of the United States. He also supposedly had two kids who got on the Dawes Roll. Supposedly, his daughter is the one who influenced him to try.
