| Story* | | Bible brought by Elijah Capps and his parents, from Ohio in 1838 has names and dates of many of his family members (Evd 363). There is also a loose note in it with the initials DRO, dated 1937, This Bible is over 100 yrs old - brought from Ohio by my great-grandfather & mother in year 1838, but published 1829. Another entry in Bible, written at a more recent time says, My mother Mary Capps was just 3 yrs old when the family came from Ohio in covered wagons to Illinois, settle on farm s. of Canton, always known as the Capps fruit farm. The last piece that is written at a different time and handwriting is - My great grandfather & grandmother Demsy & Sarah came to Illinois in 1838 with my grandfather Elijah & his wife Rebecca Capps. They died & were buried on the old "Capps Fruit Farm" where they first settled in Illinois. My grandfather & grandmother died in Canton 1891 & 1890 & buried in Greenwood Cemetery. - Bible in possession of Marilyn Hubbard Roberts. |

Grondchildren: Elizabeth Hetrick, Sarah Jane Colville, William H Hulit, LLizie Hulit, and Charles Hulit. Personal estate not sufficient to pay debts, the deficiency is $1758.75 plus interest and cost. The land was "situate in the county of Fulton and state of Illinois, to wit: Lot numbers ten (10) in Thorp subdivision of Frances Addition to the town now city of Canton".
