She was born in Wilkes county, N. C., October 21, 1801; came to Illinois in 1818; married in 1820; united with the M. E. Church at a camp meeting held in Canton, by Rev. Peter Cartwright, in 1832; was a faithful and devoted member of the church, a kind an cheerful neighbor. In all her relations in life she exhibited the true christian character. She leaves a family of six children, most of whom are settled in life. Her greatest concern during her illness seemed to be for the happiness and welfare of her children. Rev. R. Hancy preached her funeral sermon to a large concourse of mourning friends and neighbors, on Sabbath, July 21, when her remains were taken to their final resting place in the home cemetery, four miles east of Canton, her to her home, where she lived for forty years. She died a hopeful, cheerful death, and leaves a strong testimony to her children and neighbors in favor of the christian faith and a holy life. May her God and Friend be with her living loved ones till the glorius reunion after the storms of life are over. J. H. RHEA.4 |
