| Birth | between 1715 and 1720 | probably, Connecticut |
| Marriage | 6 December 1740 | Elizabeth Thatcher; Brooklyn, Windham Co., Connecticut, "Careful search of CT records by an outstanding historian and genealogist has furnished no evidence as to the origin and parentage of either Robert or Elizabeth. There was no Vine family of whom he might have been the progeny. There were Thatcher families, but their Elizabeths are otherwise accounted for than by marriage to a Vine. There is a very slim chance that she might have been the daughter of John and Elizabeth Thatcher (unidentified), of Ashford CT, but this is most doubtful. At the time the Thatcher line was traced it was impossible to get at all records. "Only two of the children of Robert and Elizabeth Vine were recorded baptized at Canterbury, their sons John and Ebenezer. The fact that the family were separatists may account for no church records on their other children. Although proof of parentage is lacing in the case of some of the following, their chidlren probably were: [see entries]" Note: on page 3 it says "the township of Brooklyn [CT] was not formed until 1752 but the Congregational church and society were taken out of Canterbury, Pomfret and Northlake in 1738 [might be 135, it's blurred]. Early Connecticut Marriages by Frederic W Bailey records the marriage of Robert Vine and Elizabth Thatcher at Brooklyn Dec 6, 1740. there is no record of Robert Vine and no record of his children in the General Index of Connecticut Vital Records at the Connecticut State Library."1 |
| Religion | 26 September 1746 | Canterbury, Connecticut, Printed Church Records of Canterbury conains items referring to Robert Vine on pg 20, 47, 78, and 79, the latter two bing births of sons John and Ebenezer. The first two are that he subscribed to Covenant 26 Sep 1746 and Admitted Sep 1735 - the years on those two items may be wrong as the copy being typed from is a few generation off of a carbon copy. It it becomes important, the original church records should be consulted. There are other tidbits regarding his affiliation with the church found at the CT State Library in Ecclesiastcal Affairs, quoted in the Vine Papers.2 |
