| Note | Mary (__________); "John Thompson & Mary, his wife, both came from Penn to Ohio to Guernsey Co. When he died, he left his farm to his son Mitchell for the purpose of caring for his widow Mary & his daughter Easter who was an invalid. Mrs Boyd remembers her grandmother Mary Thompson who was a decided firm worman, a large fat woman, but very short, being able to stand under Mrs Boyd's arm. She does not remember her grandfather, but says her grandmother didn't die until after 1854 when her father Robert came to Illinois. They are both buried in the Union Cem at Fairview O which is on the National Road 12 miles east of Old Washington O & just at the east edge of Fairview O is the dividing line between Guernsey & Belmont Cos O & Mrs B is sure her Uncle Mitchell's farm was in Belmont Co and was 2 miles from Fairview & her father's farm 3/4 of a mile from Fairview was in Guernsey Co. She cannot understand why they were not buried in the Presbyterian g.y. but says that she thinks there are markers to their graves as her Uncle Mitchell's son, Hugh Thompson, saw their graves once when he was back on a visti. Mrs Boyd knows nothing of their family Bible. I think it would go to Mitchell."2 | |

| Note | In one email from Cheryl to Leta, upon seeing Selah Hart's name as witness in John Thompson's will, she said: "I took a different tactic when I did the search on Rootsweb. I plugged in Selah Hart who married a Thompson in my search and this tree appeared http://worldconnect.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=GET&db=charwil&id=I72082 it fits with my suspicisions - that the Selah Hart who witnessed John's will was his brother-in-law and also that Hugh who migrated on west to Oregon was John's brother." In later email to Kathryn she said: I believe that John and Hugh's father was John Thompson of Warren Township in Belmont County, OH - John, Sr. and Hugh are listed on the 1820 census. I agree that Hugh was married before he married Ann Grier and then Sarah Grier. There is a marriage between a Hugh Thompson and a Nancy Dougherty on 12 Dec 1817 in Belmont County, Ohio, who could possibly be this Hugh Thompson, but this is just speculation. Selah Hart and Hugh Thompson were executors of John Thompson, Jr.'s estate in Morgan County. I believe that Selah was married to John and Hugh's sister, Mary Thompson. I can't recall if I got Hugh's birthplace off of the Clackamas County, OR or the Marion County, OR USGENWEB site. I believe it was from cemetery records that it was noted that Hugh was born in Allegheny County, PA, which is a new clue. I do find a John Thompson on th 1790 census for Allegheny County, PA with 2 males over 16, 1 male under 16 and 2 females. Are you aware of these JV Thompson Journals? Apparently they can be accessed at the Family History Centers. There are several volumes and I understand that the gal who posted the Thompson Tree is actually has or is indexing these journals. http://www.familysearch.org/Eng/Library/fhlcatalog/supermainframeset.asp?display=titledetails&titleno=482477&disp=Josiah+V%2E+Thompson%2C+Uniontown%2C+Pa%%20%20&columns=*,0,0 Kathryn intended to look at the journals in Salt Lake in 2003, but ran out of time and forgot. It is on the list of things to do for 2004. 2 | |
