Marie Eugenie Bonnard; Casper, Wyoming, Letter from "J.C. Snook" to "Dearest Mother" Your letter came yesterday, I am not sure but what your honors thrill me as much if not more than they do you, you can not imagine how proud of you I am, even my heroic brother must take second place. It is wonderful to be honored for you deeds, as it does not always come to those who most deserve it. Mother dear if you were a man, we would have a leader to step into Roosevelts place, as a leader of American thought and action, and Oh how we do need a real leader now. But I am mighty glad you are not for what what would we kids do with out you for a Mother. I wonder if Edith or I will be able to guide the steps of our children with such clearness of vision and understanding as you did mine and if we can instill in them that honor that would rather died than be tainted ever so little. They are wonderful kids and it would be a crime against God not to bring them up right, but I know we will, only some times I get worried for fear I might missunderstand them. the rest of the letter is missing, and there is no indication of what the "honor" is. |

| Biography |
|
Per Mervyn Reeves [mailto:reg@reeves500.freeserve.co.uk] Henry was the 4th child of Henry Snook and Elizabeth nee Curtis. After some years in New Zealand he ended up at Weimar, California as a fruit grower. He married twice. His first wife was Carrie Bostwick who died at Weimar in 1896, and his second wife was Martha Boop who died in 1907. Henry had 2 sons by his first wife, Percy who in 1924 was an expert in oil drilling in Texas married with 2 children, and Cyril who in 1924 was on the home ranch. Henry also had 2 sons by his second wife, Franklin who in 1938 lived in Michigan, and George who in 1938 had a home and fruit ranch adjoining the home ranch. Henry died March 26th.1938. I believe Percy died at Santa Anna, Coleman, Texas in 1970. (Ann Snook found him in the 1920 census), Cyril died in July 1969 at Weimar, and George died October 1966.I think I found the deaths in the vital records website, so I can't guarentee I've go the correct ones). I don't know anything about Franklin. So the brothers that Mr Quinn remembers at Weimar will be Cyril and George who were actually half brothers. |
