| Obituary | An article with photo (caption Mourned In City - Dr George E Campbell Succumbs to Sudden Illness) rather than regular obit. Death Takes Prominent Physician - Dr George Campbell Stricken Suddenly - On Staff of Two Hospitals - Services to Be Held Friday Afternoon. Dr George E Campbell, 504 South Catalina Avenue, a prominent Pasadena physician ever since he moved here from Minnesota in 1902, died early today. He was 72 years old. Previously in apparent good health, Dr Campbell was stricken ill last night and survived but a few hours. His death is a sad shock to his family, many friends and fellow members of the medical profession. Born in Wisconsin Dr Campbell was born in Columbus Wis. May 1, 1867, but as a child moved with his parents to Minnestoa, where he grew up. He was graduated from the University of Minnesota in the Class of 1895. He married Miss Alta E Vine of Elmira, Minn., and they established their home in Rochester, Minn. Dr Campbell practiced medicine there for many years, before coming to Pasadena. In 1937 Dr and Mrs Campbell celebrated their Golden Wedding. He was a man devoted to his family, to his profession. About his only hobby was the culture of flowers, of which he was very fond. Dr Campbell was on the staffs of both Huntington Memorial Hospital and St Luke Hospital. In private life he was a member of the Mason, Elks, and Knights of Pythias. For many years he had been a member of the board of directors of the Pasadena Historical Society. Survivors Listed Surviving are the widow, Mrs Alta Campbell; one daughter, Mrs Barnett Atkinson, and one son, Dr Leon G Caampbell, who, also, is a physician. Another daughter Nilva, died years ago. The doctor is also survived by three grandchildren, Jane and Patricia Campbell, and Leon George Campbell Jr. Other relatives mourning Dr Campbell's passing are a nephew, Dr Stanley A Vine of this city; his sister-in-law, Mrs Nellie A Smith, and Mr and Mrs Rodney Feelyater, cousins, who live in Long Beach. Funeral services will be held Friday afternoon at 4 o-clock, at the chapel of the Ives & Warren Company. Dr James Leishman of Pasadena Presbyterian Church will conduct the service4 | |
| Source | He had a couple of bios. This in an extract from the Pasadena Community Book. Eventually, both entire bios needs to be put in. "In connection with the family history, it is interesting to note that Dr Daniel Campbell, a very eminent physician and surgeon of Vermont is an ancestor of Dr George E Campbell. [actually a cousin, not ancestor]. "After completing his elementary education in the schools of Rochester and St Charles, Minnesota, the future Dr Campbell entered the University of Minnesota, where he graduated in medicine in 1895, having been a classmate of the late Dr Charles Mayo with whom he maintained a life long acquaintance. "Dr Campbell practiced for seven years at Wykoff [Fillmore Co] Minnesota, where he also operated a private hospital. It was in 1902 that he came to Pasadena...". 5,6 |

| Death | 7 November 1918 | Pasadena, Los Angeles Co., California, Death record shows father as Robert Mills, evidently a typo. The informant is Dr George E Campbell. She died at home 504 S Catalina Ave1,3 |
| Note | According to son George's bio (Evd 62) she belonged to a family of 14 children. According to her husband's bio, "it has been said by one of her grandchildren that Mrs Campabell belonged to a family of fourteen children, all of whom 'had the wonderlust'; a brother, a true pioneer, who had left home for the West before she was born, first became known to her decades later in California, where he was the owner of a large orange grove." There is a possible father named Robert Miller in Windham Co 1830 with 1m & 1f 20-30 plus 2m5-10 and 1m0-5. However, if this is right person, there should be 1f0-5. Worth checking this man though |

| Birth | between 1830 and 1831 | Coblenz, Rheinland, Germany, Birth year backed into from age 34 on 1864 marr record (Evd 19) and 57 on death record (Evd 3) which also says born Germany (versus Prussia on census). Marr record says he was born Coblenc Prussia. |
| Immigration | 1851 | Have both emmigration & immigration records showing he left Hamburg 17 Oct 1851 arrived New York 29 Nov 1851 on the ship Elise. "Of" Coblenz Rheinland, don't know for sure if that's birthplace. The original immigration list shows he was age 24 and "of" Saxony and the spelling looks like Chrisl. The emmigration list shows Christel Otto with a word underneath his name that so far has not been translated, it says geomatar as best as can be made out. Speculation: maybe it's an occupation? Hard to tell from the other entries. Need to have an expert look at this listing.1,2,3 |

| Marriage | 29 April 1864 | Margaret Gerhausser; Alexandria, (Independant City), Virginia, Marr record says "consent of father of wife in person". It also says Otto's occupation is Engineer "now Capt 15th NY Heavy Art". Otto was 34 and Margaret was 21.4,5 |
| Military | 20 January 1870 | Otto's Civil War service was in Company B 15th NY Heavy Artilary. He received a gunshot wound at Weldon Rail Road VA on 21 Aug 1864, and subsequently had to have his leg amputated. He got an invalid pension, and there are a couple of original signatures among the paperwork. On 22 Sep 1888 his son Charles got the guardianship for his minor siblings. There is a sworn affidavit from the midwife who attended the birth of those siblings. In part of the papers, Charles had to answer some questions about his expenditures. There is a lengthy examination that tells us that the youngest child (Eddie) caused a lot of trouble for his sisters, and wouldn't go to school. That, though only 14, he would stay out nights and Charles finally was compelled to have him committed to St Mary's Industrial School (in Baltimore) for 2 years before he showed good promise of reform and he secured his release. As a help for Jennie and Otto, and after advice, he placed them in the Baltimore Orphan Asylum. He continued to supply them with clothes and, "reading between the lines", it seems like he was still close to them. There are original signatures of several related people among the papers, including Otto, Charles, Charles' mother-in-law, Otto's father-in-law (or possibly his brother-in-law), and Jennie per Ancestry American Civil War Soldiers - Enlisted as a Lieutenant 2nd Class on 13 October 1861 at the age of 32 Commission in Company C, 15th Heavy Artillery Regiment New York on 13 October 1861. Promoted to Full Lieutenant 1st Class on 30 July 1862 Transfered on 22 October 1863 from company C to company B Promoted to Full Captain on 22 October 1863 (As of Co. B) Discharged Company C, 15th Heavy Artillery Regiment New York on 15 December 18646 |
