Info from the journal of Anna Giffin Sweet.
"Probably came with Winthrop's fleet and was made a freeman of Mass. Colony May
18, 1631. He settled at Watertown and was surveyor in 1634. In 1636 he removed
to Wetherfield, May 1 1637 he was appointed 1st Lieut of Capt. John Masons'
expedition against the Pequot Indians. He proved a valiant soldier and was one
of the first to enter the mystic fort to clear away the brushwood entrance
after Capt. Mason had leaped over it. He received a wound in the eyebrow in
the encounter. June 1637 the General Court gave him command of thirty men of
the Conn. Reser(?) to sit down in the Pequot Country and (risers?), in place
convenient to maintain the right that God by conquest had given them. 'In 1639
he joined the New Haven Colony and signed the fundamental agreement of that
year. In Oct he was admitted a member of the New Haven Church and at the same
time was chosen Marshall of the Colony. In 1646 he was gliven leave to
return to England, but soon came back and in 1654 led the New Haven forces,
under Sedgewick and Leasith against the New Netherlands. Later he went to
Huntington L. I. where he probably died. In 1662 he was Commissioner for
Huntington and in 1663 appointed to be the Chief Military Officer there. His
wildow Mary administered on his estate Oct 19, 1668." Atwater, HISTORY OF NEW

Monument located at Fairfield, CT, "The Great Swamp Fight here ended the Pequot
War July 13, 1637." This monument was erected in honor of the brave men of the
colonies who fouht here in 1637 including ROBERT SEELEY.
